Vijay K. Varadan is a co-founder and CMO/CTO/CIO of Nanowear Inc at the Penn State Innovation Park. Nanowear is the leading developer of patented, textile-based nanosensor technology with application in the cardiac, neurological, diabetic and sports medicine / performance diagnostic monitoring markets. The Company’s proprietary technology enables wireless, real-time electrophysiological monitoring that provides medical professionals with accurate and continuous diagnostic data through a cost-effective and non-invasive wearable deployment. Professor Varadan is also associated with the Department of Engineering Science and Department of Neurosurgery at Penn State Hershey Medical School as Distinguished Professor. He serves as the Twenty-First Century Endowed Chair in Nano-and Bio-Technology and Medicine, and Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering) and Neurosurgery (College of Medicine) at University of Arkansas from 2005 till 2017 and Emeritus-in-Service now. He also holds honorary doctorate degrees in Nano-, and Bio-Technologies and Medicine from India, Australia and Korea. He also served on the faculty of Cornell University, Ohio State University and Pennsylvania State University where he was Distinguished Professor of Engineering Science and Electrical Engineering and Neurosurgery since 1983. He was the Director of the University of Arkansas High Density Electronic Center and the NSF Center for Wireless Nanosensors and Systems.

He has developed neurostimulator, wireless microsensors and systems for sensing and control of Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, glucose in the blood and Alzheimer’s disease

I obtained my Ph.D. in Physics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) with a thesis on magnetic nanowires and microtubes. Then, I moved to the Solid -State Physics Lab at the Paris XI University (Orsay, France), where I spent almost three years with a Marie Curie individual fellowship. In 2003 I joined the Institute of Microelectronics of Madrid (IMM) with a "Ramon y Cajal" contract, where in 2006 I became Tenured Researcher of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). In 2017 IMM changed to Institute of Micro and Nanotechnology (IMN) and I got a promotion to become Research Scientist. In 2017 I was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Northeastern University (Boston, USA) for several months. Nowadays, I also hold administrative duties as Head of the Department of Fabrication and Characterization of Nanostructures at IMN.

My research work focuses on the study of different nanostructures (such as nanoparticles, nanocolumns, lithographed elements and thin films) with applications in various fields: magnetism, plasmonics and biomedicine. In particular, in this latter field, I prepare antibacterial coatings and nanostructured electrodes for cell stimulation. In the last few years, I have led the projects entitled “Magnetic antidots”, “Large area advanced materials based on nanopillars and nanoparticles”, “NeuPES (Electrical stimulation with nanostructured electrodes)” and “Nanoimplant”, which won the IDEA²Madrid Award (a partnership of the Madrid Government and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT). I have co-authored 82 articles (which have received more than 3000 citations) and 2 patents. I have given about 30 invited conferences and my h-index is 30 (WoS).

Charles Brumlik worked with Dr. Brauer as a nanotechnology expert on many projects for over a decade and leads a team of 12 technical searchers. As corporate IP attorney with Honeywell and ExxonMobil and at a Princeton IP law firm, he managed international intellectual property strategies for materials, drafted patents for chemicals, manufacturing processes, and consumer products and negotiated technology, funding, joint venture and intellectual property agreements.

Commencing with his Ph. D. dissertation entitled “Nanochemistry and Nanomaterials” at Texas A&M, Dr. Brumlik has over 30 years of experience working with nanotechnology. As a postdoc at Colorado State University, he published widely on creating and testing materials, devices and systems in the nano and meso scale. He also collaborated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), international academic groups, government, and corporate research groups. Dr. Brumlik’s recent nanotechnology work ranges from composites to nanomaterials to petrochem. From early in his career, Brumlik assisted in the creation and operation of startup companies for molecular models, energy, business methods, electrically conducting composites, food chemistry, and consulting. His legal career started as a registered patent attorney and developed to include technology transfer, sponsored research, joint ventures, international business transactions, due diligence and related business law. For over 10 years, Charles held Chair, Vice Chair and related positions for the ACS’ Chemical Marketing & Economics Group.

Prof. (Em.) Aharon Gedanken obtained his Ph. D. degree from Tel Aviv University, Israel. After his postdoctoral research at USC in Los Angeles. He got a lecturer position at BIU on Oct. 1975. In 1994 he switched his research interest from Spectroscopy to Nanotechnology. His special synthetic methods of nanomaterials include: Sonochemistry, Microwave Superheating, Sonoelectrochemistry, and Reactions under Autogenic Pressure at Elevated Temperatures (RAPET). Since 2004 he is mostly focused on the applications of nanomaterials. Gedanken has published 835 per-reviewed manuscripts in international journals. His H-Index is 91. He was a partner in five EC FP7 projects one of them, SONO, was coordinated by him. This project was announced by the EC as a “Success Story”. He was the Israeli representative to the NMP (Nano, Materials, and Processes) committee of EC in FP7. He was awarded the prize of the Israel Vacuum Society in 2009 and the Israel Chemical Society for excellence in Research in Feb. 2013.

Nanotechnology

Dr. Lingayya Hiremath, had been awarded Ph.D in Biotechnology in year 2004 from Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. Currently working as Professor, Dept. Biotechnology, R.V. College of Engineering, Bengaluru, Karnataka India. He had been received Young scientist state award from VGST, Govt. of Karnataka in year 2014. He has published more than 50 research papers in reputed national and International journals. He had been given invited talk in National and International forms such as UB Technological University, Prague Czech Republic. He has been guiding Ph.D students in the various areas in Biotechnology. The main areas of research interest in the field of Environmental biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Clean Energy Technology. He had received funds from various funding agencies to carryout research activities. He had received three times outstanding best “Project of the year award 2017, 2018 and 2019” from Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru. He had received Funds to setup R&D Centre on “Waste to Clean Energy Lab” by Karnataka Council for Technological Upgradation at R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore. Reciced funds from various funding agencies like MSME, VGST, DST to carryout research activies in the feild of Nanotechnology, Enviromnetal Technology and Health care.

Environmental biotechnology, Nanotechnology and Clean Energy Technology

Dr.Eng.Ali Sabea Hammood is a PhD.in Metallurgical Engineering-Corrosion Engineering and Surface Protection from University of Technology in 2004. He has authored for five scientific books in English by international and national publishers, and 40 scientific articles published in international and national, peer-reviewed for highly accredited scientific journals. He has supervised 4 Ph.D. Projects and 8 M.Sc. Dissertations. as well as having a patent about using duplex stainless steel (2507) as a new material in orthodontic wires.

His research interests highly focus on Biomaterials, Corrosion and Surface Protection for Advanced Materials.

Zoya Ghorbanishiadeh is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Washington State University, Pullman, USA. She received the M.Sc. degree in Atomic and Molecular Physics from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2013.

Her research areas include Laser-matter interaction, Nonlinear Optics, Smart Materials, Material Characterization, Polymeric Materials, Optics and Photonics, Hydrocarbon Conversion, and Chemical Physics.
